Energy Transition or Energy Addition? Africa's Practical Path to Powering Industry
For much of the global economy, the energy transition has become synonymous with replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy. Africa faces a fundamentally different challenge. The continent is not transitioning away from abundant electricity—it is attempting to build the reliable, affordable and scalable energy systems it has never fully possessed. For African governments, investors and industrial leaders, the central question is no longer whether renewable energy should play a greater role, but how to expand total energy supply fast enough to power industrialisation, support economic growth and improve living standards. The debate is therefore shifting from energy transition to energy addition.
