Net profit attributable to shareholders rose 2% year on year to €1.588 billion in the July-to-September period, exceeding analysts’ expectations of €1.444 billion, according to Reuters reporting on 28 October. In a separate results statement, the bank reported post-tax profit of €1.9 billion and profit before tax of €2.6 billion, up 8% from a year earlier. These are distinct profit measures rather than conflicting totals.
Group net revenues increased 4% to €8.3 billion. Deutsche Bank said focused growth areas accounted for 80% of the increase, with the Corporate Bank recording record revenues and Wealth Management delivering double-digit annual growth. Assets under management in its Private Bank and Asset Management businesses rose by €50 billion during the quarter to €2 trillion, supported by record net inflows of €47 billion.
The bank lifted its full-year revenue ambition to more than €33 billion, citing its performance during the first nine months. The updated outlook gives investors a clearer measure of management’s confidence that stronger activity in core businesses can sustain growth through the remainder of the year. The bank also said non-interest expenses were expected to remain in line with plan as it continued investing while seeking operating efficiencies.
However, the improvement was not uniform. Reuters reported that investment-banking revenue fell 2%, while fixed-income and currency trading revenue declined 3%. These businesses can be sensitive to market volatility, financing conditions, and clients’ willingness to transact. A weaker trading environment could limit gains elsewhere, particularly if economic uncertainty reduces deal-making or risk appetite.
For shareholders, the central questions are whether revenue growth can be maintained, costs remain controlled, and credit provisions stay consistent with the bank’s outlook. Deutsche Bank’s results provide evidence of stronger earnings capacity, but the next test will be whether its diversified business mix can continue to offset volatility in investment banking while delivering the revenue ambition above €33 billion.
